Gravy Train at Roasted Cafe Bar

Despite its inconspicuous appearance on a residential street corner in Haverhill, Roasted Cafe Bar has forged a robust reputation thanks to its flavorful and copious brunch based on local ingredients. For example, their coffee comes from Flight Coffee Co., an award-winning roaster, located in Bedford, NH. Moreover, their comfort food is served in a convivial and laid-back atmosphere, where locals like to reconvene.

Once the Gravy Train, a biscuit sandwich with sausage gravy, fried eggs, and fried chicken, found its way to our table, I was struck by the sheer size of the dish. The ample amount of homemade gravy that topped the equally copious chicken piece welded all the different flavors together. As for the artisanal biscuit, its crust contrasted nicely with its otherwise softer texture. Subsequently, the Chicken or the Eggs, another sandwich, juxtaposing fried chicken, fried eggs, and bacon, shared similar attributes: a copiously served concoction full of diverging flavors and textures.

Chicken or the Egg at Roasted Cafe Bar
In brief, Roasted Cafe Bar’s no-nonsense approach to comfort food yields a delicious, copious, and affordable brunch. While not reinventing the wheel, nor transcending well-established culinary notions, it delivers simple and thoughtful recipes that will satiate you for most of the day. Moreover, this little restaurant is now open in the evening from Wednesday to Saturday. It’s a delightful news as great little brunch spots don’t abound in that area!
