Mosaic Cafe, located in Northampton, focuses on Mediterranean dishes mostly from France, Greece, and North Africa. Seldom in the area, that type of cuisine endows the little restaurant with a serious competitive edge. In fact, to my great pleasure, their menu featured many lamb-based Moroccan specialties that later became popular in the Hexagone. Hence, a choice of couscous or sandwiches/crepes filled with merguez (a lamb sausage heavily spiced with chili pepper and cumin) presented itself to me.
I initiated my Mediterranean brunch with their Crepe Marseillaise with Lamb Mergez. Topped with a spicy sauce and stuffed with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and, of course, merguez, this piquant concoction rekindled a nostalgia from childhood memories. It emulated flavors endemic to the south of France. Moreover, the use of crepe further reinforced the French touch. Subsequently, the Spicy Lamb Merguez Brochette sandwich, a baguette filled with merguez, lettuce, tomatoes, and Dijon mustard, was equally as delectable. In France, the baguette with merguez inside is somewhat considered as an equivalent of a hot dog.
